As policy changes in the solar market accelerate, including the entry into force of the Special Act on the Promotion of Distributed Energy and the overhaul of network usage fees, companies need thorough legal preparation to meet their RE100 commitments reliably.
On September 25, Attorney Sungwoo (Goni) Kim of SOLARIS spoke at the PV_PPA KOREA Conference held at EXCO in Daegu, sharing in-depth insights with industry participants on "PPA Projects from A to Z: What You Need to Know to Develop and Operate Them." In the session, Attorney Kim gave a comprehensive overview of the legal issues and practical strategies that arise across the entire process of entering into power purchase agreements (PPAs).
With the introduction of regionally differentiated system marginal prices (SMP) and the reform of the power market, contract structures between electricity suppliers and corporate buyers are becoming increasingly complex. Attorney Kim stressed the importance of putting specific legal safeguards in place to identify and guard against, in advance, grid connection issues in direct PPAs, the basis for calculating damages for breach of contract, and the risk of regulatory change over the life of a long-term contract.
Drawing on its strong understanding of the renewable energy market and extensive practical experience, SOLARIS will continue to provide expert legal advice so that companies can develop optimized RE100 and PPA strategies free of legal risk, even as the policy environment changes rapidly.
