Attorney Sungwoo (Goni) Kim of SOLARIS spoke at the PV_PPA Korea conference at KINTEX in Ilsan, presenting ways to manage legal risk under Korea's direct power trading (PPA) framework.
At the event, themed "Solar Power for RE100 Smart Industrial Complexes and High-Return PPA Business Strategies," Attorney Kim presented "The A to Z of Developing and Operating Stable PPA Projects." He clearly classified complex contract structures, including third-party PPAs, on-site and off-site direct PPAs and virtual PPAs (VPPAs), and examined in depth the key disputes that arise in practice, such as supply chain management obligations, the treatment of surplus generation and RECs, and a contracting party's exit. "Because PPAs are now commonly long-term contracts of 20 years or more, structuring the contract up front and providing for a replacement party are the keys to a stable project," he said, stressing the importance of proactive legal review.
