이번 신고는 현대자동차가 발간한 '2025년 지속가능성보고서' 내 철 사용량 공시의 문제점에서 출발했습니다. 기후솔루션의 분석에 따르면, 현대자동차는 차량 생산에 사용되는 철강의 양을 산정함에 있어 협력사 공정에서 사용된 물량을 배제하고 자체 공장에서 직접 소비한 물량만을 기준으로 삼았습니다. 이로 인해 차량 1대당 철 사용량이 글로벌 타 완성차 업체 대비 현저히 낮게 공시되었으며, 결과적으로 온실가스 배출량이 축소 보고되었을 가능성이 제기되었습니다.

SOLARIS Represents Climate Solution in Filing Complaints Against Hyundai Motors for Alleged Greenwashing
Attorney Sungwoo Kim of SOLARIS recently represented the climate environmental organization Climate Solution in filing official complaints with the Ministry of Environment and the Fair Trade Commission, raising allegations of "greenwashing" against Hyundai Motors.
The complaint stems from the steel usage disclosure in Hyundai Motors' '2025 Sustainability Report.' According to Climate Solution's analysis, Hyundai Motors calculated its steel usage by excluding the volume used in its suppliers' manufacturing processes, strictly accounting only for the materials directly consumed in its own facilities. Consequently, the reported steel usage per vehicle was significantly lower than that of other global automakers, raising concerns that overall greenhouse gas emissions may have been underreported.
SOLARIS determined that these actions potentially violate the Environmental Technology and Industry Support Act, as well as the Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising. During the press conference, Attorney Sungwoo Kim pointed out, "While the company repeatedly emphasized managing environmental impacts 'across the entire supply chain' throughout the sustainability report, it intentionally omitted supplier data for the critical metric of steel usage." He stressed that this is not a lack of capability, but an intentional omission constituting greenwashing.
