Attorney Sungwoo (Goni) Kim of SOLARIS contributed a legal column to Solar Today, a publication specializing in renewable energy, titled "[Solar Issues Through the Lens of Law] Changes to KS Certification Standards for Bifacial Solar Modules: Industry Confusion and the Need for Reform."
In the column, Attorney Kim analyzed in depth how the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards' revision of the KS test standard for bifacial solar modules (from STC to BNPI) will affect the power generation market. He pointed in particular to the legal and economic risks that already-permitted solar plants may face once the grace period ended in September 2025, including findings that their installed capacity exceeds the permitted level, additional construction costs and financing losses. He also proposed policy improvements, such as minimizing retroactive application to existing facilities and establishing clear exceptions.
Drawing on its expertise in renewable energy and environmental regulation, SOLARIS will continue to provide the legal services corporate clients need to run their businesses with stability amid fast-changing policy and regulation.
